We finally did it.
After years and years of Insight/Comcast/Direct TV, we finally canceled our cable service. We were basically paying about $80 a month for the privilege of taping PBS shows on our DirectTV DVR. We had season 2 of Mad Men sitting on our DVR and never watched one episode. The early cancellation price will be paid for after our second month without cable. When the T.V. is on, the kids usually watch a DVD and don't even realize that the T.V. is cable- free.
The digital converter box will be arriving today. This is where things will get interesting. I'm curious how the locals will look . Any advice would be appreciated. Also ordered a motorized 360 degree antenna which I will try to install without killing myself on our roof.
Tonight, I watched the Bear game where I always do: my friends house.
The Cubs? I watched about 11 innings total this year. And my mental health is much better because of it. Honestly, I can't believe the amount of time I invested in watching that team. Children really make you re-evaluate everything.
My wife brought the laptop downstairs and listened to a newscast online. Lots of interesting options regarding online viewing.
The day will come where we may jump back in the cable pool, but for now we're out.
I am sorry to learn that you have discontinued your service. If you decide to come back in the future, feel free to contact us. We will be happy to help.

Well Mark I appreciate your concern, but we discontinued our service with you over a year ago, so I'm not sure how much I was really missed.
ReplyDeleteHow do you access internet for that laptop? Dialup? DSL?
ReplyDeleteWe have DSL, but I think we're going to skip the Roku box.
ReplyDeleteWe can watch Netflix/Amazon On Demand on the laptop, so we'll just stick to locals and VCR/DVD on the TVs.
