I've never quite seen Peoria described this way......

courtesy of Hipkat via Peoria Illinoisan:

"For instance, full of history, but no one DOES seem to care about that.
No preservation at all.

This is a town I would expect to find a lot of pubs (Kellehers style) and homegrown eateries.’
Where Midwest Conservatism and Tradition meet up with Chicago style adventure and modern day culture.

But it isn’t. Instead, I see a majority of people living a cliche’. A majority struggling to survive. I see a lack of good neighborliness. I see a people that think they’re something they’re not.
I see a total lack of cultural arts.
I see a college town without a real college feel to it.

I see a city lost in itself, and not realizing it’s lost."

Nicely put.

Now this is what's important......

Read all about here.

A top school system? Nope
An increasing city population? Nope
One of the safest cities to live? Nope

It's all about the window dressing.

Attention Drivers..........

Anytime your windshield wipers are in use......YOUR HEADLIGHTS MUST BE ON!!!! STATE LAW!!!!!

And if you are going to make a turn........USE YOUR TURN SIGNALS!!!!!

And here's my "why I have road rage" story of the week:

I was turning left onto Sterling off of Scenic. I had the left turn green arrow. I started my turn when a driver ran the red light and turned left onto Scenic off of Sterling. I gave her the vulcan death stare and she stuck her tounge out at me. Because I was in the wrong for obeying the traffic signals.

Then again the driver didn't flip me off so maybe we are evolving as a society. The smile and hand wave while running the red light will be the next logical step.

To helmet or not to helmet......

I've never really been a strong proponent of a motorcycle helmet law. Until yesterday.

I was coming off of the McClugage heading east and I took the 116 exit. There was quite a backup of traffic and I quickly saw why.

Laying in the left lane were a man and a woman. The man was bleeding badly from the head and moaning loudly. His riding partner was lying about 2 feet away, motionless. Their motorcycle was about 50 to 75 yards away in the ditch, lights still on.

Neither one had helmets on.

UPDATE: The driver swerved his bike to avoid a deer. He died yesterday and his wife is hospitalized.
